Hi, I'm Sam.
I didn't set out to build a model, I was just trying to understand why life sometimes felt so forced.
Not all the time but enough that I couldn't ignore it.
I often assumed it was stress, or personality or circumstances. Maybe I just needed to work harder, think differently, or become a better person.
But none of those explanations really worked.
What I noticed is the same people could experience the same situation in completely different ways.
Not necessarily because they believed differently, but because they were living from different operating modes, or states.
That’s what changed things for me.
Once I could recognize survival, I could see it everywhere.
In myself.
In relationships.
At work.
In churches.
In families.
In companies.
Even in the way people tried to "fix" themselves.
It wasn't that people were broken, really, it looked more like they were organized around a set of survival states.
That eventually became the ST:AR Model.
I don't see this as a philosophy, or a belief system, or something you have to agree with.
It's simply a map that helps make sense of things that didn’t make sense before.
Maybe it will do the same for you, or maybe it won't.
Either way, I hope it helps you look at your own experience a little differently.
Thanks for being here.
Sam

These days I live in Utah with my wife after spending much of my life working and raising a family on the East Coast.
When I'm not working on the model, I'm usually outside, being with the birds, exploring, or tinkering with the next idea that won't leave me alone.
